The fourth generation of the Pizzorno family continues with a family legacy of love and respect for nature born more than a century ago, without having left behind a single trace of our wine tradition. However, Carlos Pizzorno has been adding modern tecniques in grape growing and winemaking, in the search of maintaining oenologic excellence.
Today, the wines made by Pizzorno Family Estates represent a rich and fertile land. Carlos Pizzorno leads a family that knew how to evolve on the basis of believing in its land and went on working restlessly to honor its great passion for wine.
In our vineyards, we respect the ecosystem and contribute to the conservation of the environment. We do not fertilize soil and make a rational use of water.
Before harvesting, we work intensely on green pruning, leave defoliating and thinning of clusters to obtain the best grapes, which is reflected in the quality of the wines, all made with our own grapes.
The harvest is carried out manually according to the sensory parameters assessed by our winemakers and the lab analyses carried out in our premises: total acidity control, pH, sugar, nitrogen, total and extractable anthocyanins, seed maturity and total polyphenols.
Winemaker, current owner and CEO of the winery. With a broad look and convinced of the road he was taking, in 1988 he fostered the production of fine wines and carried out the technological upgrading that soon led to the first exports. Some time later, he undertook the construction of an underground cellar and a comfortable tasting room.
Carlos’s wife, is a fundamental pillar for the company. She promoted the commercial area and developed the first foreign market to which the winery exported. Gastroenterologist by education, she deviated for several years from medical practice to contribute to the development of this family project, after which she returned to full time practice. However, she continues to investigate within the scope of medicine on the beneficial effects of wine for human health.
Carlos’ son, Francisco, is currently in charge of the company’s foreign trade, tourism and communication divisions. His days are split among college, business trips and working in the winery. As a fourth generation of the family, he is grateful for the inherited legacy and for receiving from his father such an opportunity; he aspires to perpetuate the family project for many more generations.
Leading winemaker of the winery. Having arrived as a trainee to carry out his first oenological practices, he has worked in Pizzorno Family Estates for more than 18 years. His great talent for producing high quality wines led him to seek advanced education abroad, and then to apply new techniques to the winery. He launched the process of carbonic maceration and the production of natural sparkling wines.
A graduate with a Master of Science in Viticulture and Oenology from the University of the Republic and SupAgro Montpellier (France) and as an Oenology Engineer in Switzerland, he is a specialist in winemaking and responsible for all our vineyards. He joined the team in 2012 and since then has applied great innovations to the vines that resulted in noticeable improvements in our grapes and, consequently, in our wines.
Our flying winemaker, with a B.Sc. in Oenology completed in 1994 in New Zealand, has a key role in our team of winemakers. He visits the winery on several occasions during the year, mainly in the key moments such as, for example, the harvest. He currently lives in Mendoza, Argentina, where, besides counselling to other wineries, he carries out his own project. He plays an important role in the making of our successful Sauvignon Blanc.
A graduate in Business Administration, she performs administrative duties within the winery and, like most of the team, has been working with the family for over a decade. In addition, she has become a key person in our relationship with customers and suppliers.
Braulio is our pet. He appeared in our winery in November 2019, became friends with our Chef and the entire tourism team, who began to feed him. Thus, little by little he won our love and all those who visit us take a photo with him.
